The MFA Program at Manhattanville College presents

The Art of the Pitch

Barat House | Manhattanville College

$50 registration fee | coffee included | bring a lunch! 

In this two-part event, participants will work with editor Katharine Sands or agent Ron Hogan to hone the “pitch” for a manuscript that is ready for publication. After a break for lunch during which writers will revise based on the morning’s feedback, each participant will have a one-on-one opportunity to pitch to Sands or Hogan and gain further feedback. Bring a lunch! We’ll provide coffee.

Event Itinerary

10 am - 12 noon 

Workshop. Hone your pitch via feedback and critique from either an agent or an editor and other writers in your group.

12 noon - 1:00

BREAK for lunch, and writers can rework their pitches based on morning's feedback.

1:00 - 4:00

Attendees from the morning workshops will meet with either Katharine Sands or Ron Hogan in a one-on-one session to present their polished pitch. Attendees who were in Katharine's morning workshop will pitch to Editor, Ron Hogan. Those who were in Ron's morning workshop will pitch to Katharine Sands.


Your Instructors
Editor KATHARINE SANDS has worked with authors who publish a diverse array of books including fiction, memoir and non-fiction. Among the books she represents are: The Apothecary’s Curse, nominated for the Bram Stoker Award in the First Novel category for 2017; and Girl Walks Out of a Bar, a memoir that was featured by People Magazine as Notable Nonfiction.

 

Literary agent RON HOGAN helped create the literary Internet by launching Beatrice.com in 1995. In addition to reporting on the book publishing industry for several years, he has also written book reviews and literary features for a wide variety of outlets. As one of the first editorial hires at Regan Arts, he acquired and published critically acclaimed novels by Ben Brooks, Beth Hahn, Lisa Glatt, Kermit Roosevelt, Lev AC Rosen, and Karolina Waclawiak.
